Cleaning Your Office Furniture to Inhibit the Spread of Germs

News / December 28, 2020

Cleaning Your Office

Ergonomic office chairs, adjustable desks, and other types of office furniture can transform your workspace and boost your productivity. However, the recent pandemic has impacted the lives and productivity of many businesses worldwide.

To ensure your office is a virus-free, healthy working environment for your workers, cleaning your office furniture regularly and ensuring proper personal hygiene is a must.

Here are some different types of furniture and the proper ways to clean them to prevent the spread of the germs in your workplace:

Solid Wood and Veneer Furniture

Identify your furnishing type to assess the best cleaning method. The legs of common-era furniture such as accent chairs and dining room chairs are commonly made of solid wood. On the other hand, office furniture, dining tabletops, and accent chests and tables are usually made of veneer.

To clean your furniture properly, use a damp cloth followed by a dry one to wipe tables. Protect them by applying furniture polish to a soft cloth and gently wiping wood surfaces. If your furniture is soiled, clean and disinfect it with a solution of warm water, vinegar, and about five drops of dish soap. Avoid using abrasive cleaning agents containing ammonia or other solvents to prevent damage.

Upholstery

Vinyl is commonly used in common-era furniture and dining room chair seats. This fabric is made to withstand all-purpose cleaners and daily cleanings, but avoid using strong solvents to prevent it from getting damaged or discoloured. Instead, use a solution of warm water and mild soap for cleaning.

Crypton is often seen in the backs of dining room chairs. To clean this material of ordinary spills, simply blot and wipe it with a sponge and clean water. Remove tough stains with a powdered enzyme detergent diluted with water and avoid using bleach to protect the fabric.

Use a strong water-based cleaner for ink, crayons, or marker and rust removers for ballpoint ink. To get rid of syrups stains in Crypton fabric, apply a few drops of water directly on the stain and leave it there for 5-15 minutes, then brush, blot, and rinse.

Metal and Aluminium

Clean your office furniture, outdoor furniture, or dining room chairs made of metal and aluminium with a solution of warm water and mild soap or a non-corrosive cleaner such as glass cleaner. Keep it glossy and shiny by applying a fine automotive wax to its non-textured finishes.

Laminate

Your office furniture and dining tabletops made of laminate should be cleaned using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. A household cleaner that is specially designed to clean wood products must be used to get rid of stubborn stains. Don’t use abrasive cleaners or bleach to avoid voiding the warranty of the product.

Conclusion

Your office furniture can become a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria, particularly on the frequently touched surfaces. Make sure to follow the cleaning guide in this article, or if in doubt, look for cleaning guidelines on the furniture. Set up a cleaning routine and use the right cleaning products to promote a healthy and germ free workplace.
